Conan O’Brien’s Chicago Shows Sell Out Immediately

March 12, 2010 by Vignesh · 8 Comments

When “The Tonight Show” debacle finally ended NBC ensured that Conan O’Brien will not be hosting another TV show until at least September 1st.

Oh that we should be so lucky. The arrangement also saw O’Brien pocket $45 million payout for exiting the show. True, $12 million went to staff in the form of severance pay.

And nobody said he couldn’t take the show on the road.

“The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour” is O’Brien’s 30-city answer to the TV embargo. Joining him on the road is his trusty sidekick Andy Richter and equally trusty-band.

Shows are being billed as “a night of music, comedy, hugging and the occasional awkward silence.”

The tour begins April 12 in Eugene, Oregon and includes stops across the country and across the border in Canada. Judging from early ticket sales it appears he will land on his feet. Chicago stops for May 19 and 20 sold out within a couple of hours.

O’Brien quipped: “It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house.”

Sheesh…For the kind of money he got in payout you would think a fella could maybe hire some help.

  1. I wish they would stop posting that 42 mil number. Turns out it was complete ***** because 12 of it was carved out right away for his staff who didn’t get a dime other than that. So obviously it wasn’t enough and Conan is now taking care of hundreds of people some of whom are indefinitely jobless in a city they just moved to.

Look, I’m as LocoForCoCo as anybody, but DNA’s comment is just plain ignorant. Jay Leno practically has no life – he tours alternate weekends when he’s not doing his lame-ass show.

Jay is always on the road and has never stopped. Have yyou been living in a cave?

Wow, this is like the craziest thing I ever heard of.

Leno could never go on the road… he would miss being pampered in his mansion too much by the first day.
