Manchester Divided? Many Season Ticket Holders May Not Return

March 10, 2010 by Vignesh · Leave a Comment

Malcolm Glazer, an American who led a heavily leveraged buy-out of Manchester United in 2005, is not the most popular fellow in the metropolitan area, and fans of the storied club are expressing there dissatisfaction where it counts; in ticket sales (or lack thereof).

A recent study published by Virgin Money suggests that almost two-thirds of the current season ticket holders are considering not renewing the spots in the Old Trafford, angered by the leaps in average ticket prices. Before Glazer’s ownership move season tickets could be had for about ₤487. This year they are up to ₤722, an increase of almost 50%. Last year’s sale of star and fan favorite Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid did not help the P.R. either.

Last year there were actually some season tickets available for general sale, a phenomenon previously incomprehensible.
