World Cup Bargains! Ticket Prices Chopped
February 25, 2010 by Vignesh · Leave a Comment
Facing the prospect of gapping holes in attendance to World Cup matches, organizers have moved swiftly to cut prices to as little as ₤10.
FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke stated “We are not desperate. We are in a very good mood.” but noted that “The economic crisis has had an impact.” High costs, particularly with alleged price hikes at hotels and flights, and concerns about crime are all being cited as reasons for the high number of as yet unsold tickets, said to be in the tens of thousands.
Twenty percent of the remaining tickets have now been reduced to the lowest price level. Rumors had swirled tickets would be given away to avoid swathes of empty seats during matches. The rumors have been flatly denied by Valcke, who animatedly avowed “There will NEVER be a free ticket for the World Cup”
